Driven by golf's ongoing popularity surge, brand-new municipal golf courses and significant renovations continue to make the game ever more appealing.

Local architecture studio Bockus Payne has renovated a 1970s commercial skyscraper in Oklahoma City, reformatting its interiors and landscape and completely replacing its exterior glazing.

A vaulted ceiling is a perfect architectural excuse to showcase a wall of windows, as seen in this Bockus Payne-designed bedroom. With so much sun streaming in, chances are you’ll want to highlight the space with a chaise lounger and chandelier.

There's no going wrong with a black, white, and wood kitchen. That color recipe is as classic as it comes, and allows for the materials' textures and tones (include shiny black countertops) to elevate the traditional feel.

Students and visitors walk under a glass canopy toward a split-level building named the Francis Tuttle Technology Center Danforth Campus, one of the premier career training schools in Oklahoma. Architecture and design firm Bockus Payne was enlisted to create the new facility, located at 3841 E. Danforth Rd. in Edmond, Oklahoma, to meet the community’s growing demand for access to affordable education and training.

“Architecturally, we wanted this building to have one voice,” said Chris Cleburn, partner and architect at Bockus Payne. “You wouldn’t think that you are walking into a high school. When you walk downstairs to the academies, the feel is more collegiate and professional.”

“Many different kinds of rooms can benefit from a skylight. The reasons can be aesthetic or functional. There might be an architectural feature that you want to highlight. My wife and I had a beautiful stairwell in our home that was quite dark. We added a skylight to the stairwell, and the influx of natural light means that we enjoy the beauty of the stairwell without the need to turn lights on during the day.

Adding a skylight can have functional value as well. Perhaps you need more light to work in a kitchen, so you place the skylight over the kitchen island.“

The owner of this property wanted a transitional home that would blur the distinction between the interior and exterior spaces. To make that dream come true for them, Bruce Bockus, AIA, LEED AP, architect and chairman of Bockus Payne, in Oklahoma City, carried the exterior materials of stone and red steel into the interior of the residence and vaulted the interior ceilings. “The use of red steel is an eye-catching detail—the owners like it so much they named the home ‘Red Steel,’” he says.

“When project leaders invited Oklahoma City residents to share their thoughts on the construction of a museum honoring civil rights icon Clara Luper, they heard decades' worth of stories.

Collin Fleck of Bockus Payne Architecture, one of the design team members, said he most enjoyed hearing how Luper impacted residents and what the neighborhood surrounding the new site location looked like in the past.”
