Red Rock Canyon Grill delights diners with exquisite views, cozy ambiance, and Oklahoma-inspired design
Design Brief
Bockus Payne was engaged to design both Oklahoma City and Norman Red Rock locations. The Oklahoma City landmark location was intentionally sited to take full advantage of being lakeside, to reward diners with an exquisite view of Lake Hefner. An inviting barrel vaulted colonnade leads visitors to the entry. The approach is highlighted by a see through fireplace which frames views of the lake. Norman follows suit with a a similar grand entry complete with Oklahoma-centric landscaping.
Handsome and timeless in appeal, the design for both locations was inspired by the lake views and the architectural use of vernacular materials. The exterior façade is set off by tapered columns of hand-cut native red rock and rough cedar beams. Horizontal window expanses open the interior to the OKC lake Hefner view and provide an exceptional dining atmosphere. Toasting a fabulous Oklahoma sunset has become a daily tradition at Red Rock Canyon Grill. The interior design celebrates an energetic, cozy, and casual dining ambiance.
A sun room, which is enclosed by a removable glass wall in winter and converted into an outdoor dining room in warmer months, allows diners to remain connected with the changing views of the exterior landscape. In seasons of warmer weather, guests in Oklahoma City can enjoy their meals on the 1,500 square foot deck overlooking the tranquil waters of Lake Hefner. Regardless of the season, the architecture of Red Rock Canyon Grill sets the stage for one of Oklahoma City’s premier dining experiences.
