Design Brief
Seeking to create a new luxury nail salon in the recently revitalized Mayfair Village in Oklahoma City, the owner envisioned a contemporary yet approachable space for clients to relax and rejuvenate while indulging in self-care. The resulting 2,000-square-foot salon, completed in 2022, combines sophisticated design with thoughtful functionality, offering manicure, pedicure, facial, and waxing services. This project reflects the owner’s commitment to delivering a modern, luxurious experience in one of Oklahoma City’s vibrant neighborhoods.
The nail salon’s design celebrates its natural surroundings while embracing a contemporary aesthetic. Inspired by nature, the interior incorporates warm wood tones, soft whites, and patterns influenced by florals and animals. Biophilic elements, including organic shapes and materials, bring a sense of calm and harmony to the space. The cohesive design supports the salon’s mission to provide an inviting and relaxing environment for its clientele.
From the outset, the design team worked to translate the owner's vision into a seamless client journey. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed by a custom-designed reception desk complete with an undercounter fridge offering complimentary beverages. Adjacent is a curated wall of nail polish options, allowing clients to browse and select colors at their leisure. Rows of manicure and pedicure stations, each with ergonomic seating, line the salon’s north and south walls, while private rooms toward the rear provide spaces for facials and waxing services.
The design also features four oversized, recessed arches with patterned wallpaper, serving as focal points that elevate the space. Suspended ceilings with indirect lighting add depth and ambiance, while custom millwork throughout, including handwashing stations and cabinetry, underscores the attention to detail.
The project was not without challenges. Concealing above-ground plumbing for the pedicure stations and venting equipment for manicure stations required creative solutions. The design team furred out walls to both hide the necessary infrastructure and define service zones, balancing functionality with aesthetic appeal. Framing the salon’s dramatic arches—among the largest the construction team had encountered—demanded innovative engineering to maintain structural integrity while preserving the design intent.
The material palette reflects the project’s connection to its surroundings. Durable porcelain tile, quartz, and custom wallpapers pair with warm wood tones and accent hues of earthy greens and deep reds. These elements align with the salon’s natural inspiration while ensuring a high level of durability and functionality.
